If you have been keeping up to date with all the happenings of the film festival, which started last night, you may very well have missed the fact that we have our own art fair piggybacking the festival. I’ve mentioned this art fair to a couple of my artist friends and they had no idea it was happening. I think a local art fair that takes advantage of the excitement brought about by the film festival is a wonderful idea, and I hope it succeeds. So if you are at all interested in this kind of thing, make sure to make a visit to lend your support. The fair brings together many contemporary artists with the hope of promoting cutting-edge artistic production locally. The artists include:
Blankeney Sanford, Clinton Kyle Hollister, Morris Bear Squire, Phoebe Brunner, Sean Anderson, and Ron Anderson from Santa Barbara
David Seiler from Oakland
Grant Davidson and Robert Burden from San Francisco
Benjamin Anderson, and Rodney Aguiar from LA
Igor Josifov from Macedonia
Lucas Rise from Argentina
Randy Noborikawa from Laguna Beach and
Zachary Kitnick from New York City
From the look of their websites this is going to be a very ecclectic show and there are is definitely some work to get excited about. The fair opens tonight with live music from 7pm to 11pm and can be found at 322 State St. I’ll be checking it out and reporting back here with updates. If you go please comment on what you think. The point of the fair is to generate a dialogue about contemporary art and this blog is as good a place to do it as any.
