It is a bit short notice, but local artist (and my personal friend) Ethan Turpin, who has work featured in the show sent this letter to me, and I have to say it sounds pretty cool. As you may know Edward Cella used to have his gallery on Figueroa Street but moved down to LA a few months ago. I happen to have made a trip down to LACMA today which is right across from Cella’s new space. I didn’t have time to go in and look around, but I did pause to look in and the place looks great, a much larger gallery space than he had in Santa Barbara. So… if you happen to be in LA tomorrow or are looking for an excuse to get out of town, you might want to check this out.

Edward Cella Art + Architecture would like to invite you to attend the Miracle Mile Art Walk, which takes place Saturday, July 18 from 5 to 9 p.m.  The director, Edward Cella, will be giving an informal talk about the processes and backgrounds behind  the current show, Transforming Photography at 7 p.m.  In response to a strong interest, the exhibit has been extended through August 1, 2009.

This unique exhibition presents an inclusive selection of works that redefine the material nature of photography.  At a time when the boundaries between artistic medias and traditionally held expectations of the nature of photography are in flux; Transforming Photography suggests alternatives to the commonplace manipulations offered through digital processes.  The exhibition features visceral and process based photographic works by Isidro Blasco, Ben Dean, Mary Heebner, Gerald Incandela, George Legrady, Joni Sternbach, Joan Tanner, Ethan Turpin and Thomas Zika.
