Because of the Jesusita Fire we have all understandably had our minds on things other than art. The fire forced the cancellation of this month’s First Thursday, so I can’t report about any of the new exhibitions around town because I haven’t seen them. I would, therefore, like to encourage everyone to make the short trip to Carpinteria tomorrow to attend the opening of the first annual Anderson Art Collective. As I reported in my last post, this family of talented artists has been part of many exciting art happenings around town. Tomorrow nights show is also a benefit for a non-profit school for underprivileged youths in South Africa.

You can get all the details at their website by clicking here.

Don’t forget that they’ve asked people to bring something smaller than their hand to contribute to a art project that will be created during the event.

I hope to see you there.

I just got word from local artist, Sean Anderson, about an upcoming show that he and family members Ron and Ben are putting together in Carpinteria.  You hopefully remember Sean and Benjamin from the Rumble Art Fair which coincided with the Santa Barbara Film Festival. His family’s new project sounds wonderful and is for a wonderful cause. I’ve posted the information below.

I hope to see many of you there showing your support.

You can check out there new website here.

A family of professional fine artists is something different. A family of professional fine artists who have all have returned to their roots and now live in Santa Barbara, that’s unique. That same family starting a fresh new contemporary art gallery that has grown out of meaning, not money, that’s extraordinary.

On Saturday, May 16th from 5pm until 9pm you can experience the art and the vibe of the Anderson family artists Ron, Benjamin and Sean as they launch the Anderson Art Collective with a collaborative show that benefits “The Haven” a non-profit school for under-privileged children in the township of St. Francis, South Africa. The new gallery is located at 410 Palm Avenue in Carpinteria, in the old Henry Fish Seed Company building at the entrance to Carpinteria State Beach.

“Our gallery will focus mainly on the family’s diverse offering of fine art paintings and mixed media creations but will also host invitational shows. Each show will donate 5% of sales to a chosen non-profit organization. The gallery is open only three days a week, Friday/Saturday/Sunday from 1pm to 6pm and by appointment though we have a variety of events and activities that will be held in the space as well. This will be an interactive location, alive with things happening, different from the rather aloof contemporary gallery template,” according to Susie Anderson, who co-directs the gallery with her daughter-in-law, Leigh-Anne.

“We have an interactive aspect to this first show and we’re asking guests to bring an object no bigger than their hand to contribute to the creation,” notes Leigh-Anne. “We invite art lovers to come, be part of the show and perhaps take an evening stroll along the beach.”
