The crew from the Anderson family are providing another reason to head down to Carpinteria. Ron Anderson is quite a bit more established than the artists I usually highlight on this blog (see below), but I’m such a big fan of the what the Andersons are doing down in Carp, that I want to give them all the support I can. As per usual with shows at the Anderson Art Collective, portions of the proceeds from sales go to help a non-profit organization. This time it is the Santa Barbara Channelkeeper to support their work in protecting and restoring the Santa Barbara Channel. For all the information and details on the opening reception, keep reading.

Ron Anderson 20/20: Looking Forward, Looking Back

Carpinteria, CA – Anderson Art Collective’s (www.andersonARTcollective.com) next show, Ron Anderson 20/20 will open with an artist’s reception on Saturday, November 5 from 5-7pm, with live music, food and drinks and features selections of the artist’s work from his first show in Beverly Hills in 1991 through his newest creations in 2011.  The show includes his iconic 3D mixed media woodies and water fountains, oil paintings, his Kahala aloha shirt designs and a new genre he has created, three-dimensional paintings.

Internationally collected local artist Ron Anderson, studied art at UCSB in the late 60’s and after travelling the world settled in Santa Barbara in 1982. He has surfed Rincon for nearly 50 years, designed a private collection of aloha shirts for Kahala, created the famous Mickey on the Road to Hana for Disney, did a CD cover for the Beach Boys and the SB Chamber of Commerce commissioned him to create a surfer/greeter for State Street in the 90′s. He’s been represented by galleries in California, Hawaii and Las Vegas; been in shows in NY, Chicago, Aspen, Houston and Miami; created art for six restaurants and for clients around the world. Among his local clients are Yvon Chouinard founder of Patagonia, Roger Nance owner of the Beach House, Jerry and Helene Beaver and Long Board Grill’s John Scott.

As with all Anderson Art Collective shows, Ron Anderson 20/20 will benefit a non-profit organization. Five percent of sales will be donated to Santa Barbara Channelkeeper (www.sbck.org) to support their work in protecting and restoring the Santa Barbara Channel.

“Ron Anderson started his journey as a professional artist when I was six years old and my brother Benjamin was fourteen,” recalls the artist’s son and Anderson Art Collective co-curator, Sean Anderson. “Now, more than twenty years later, we have seen the amazing scope of an artist who not only influenced us to take on art as a profession and lifestyle for ourselves but has touched the lives of thousands of collectors and admirers across the US, in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. We are honored and excited to curate a show that highlights the incredible work, process, and purpose of such an influential artist.

“This exhibition will transform the gallery, with an installation and a comprehensive representation of Ron’s work from the past to the present, as well as a taste of what’s to come. This show promises to be like nothing you have seen before in Santa Barbara.”

Anderson ART Collective is located at 410 Palm Avenue, Unit A2, in Carpinteria.  The gallery is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5pm or by appointment. The gallery features contemporary artwork and is a platform to promote the arts, to protect the environment and to support human rights. It’s time again for one of the most highly anticipated exhibits of the year.  The vastly talented and ambitious Anderson family in Carpinteria will be holding the opening reception for their newest combined show this Saturday. Since opening their own gallery at 410 Palm Avenue, A2, in Carpinteria, CA in the historic Henry Fish Seed Company building, they have been put up some really great shows and have produced some of  my favorite paintings of the last few years. They have been working equally hard at getting their work out there into the world and it seems as though this work is beginning to pay off (see below). Because of this hard work, these local artists are getting national, and even international recognition, so seeing their work in such a wonderful local space is a real treat.

Congratulations to the Andersons for their much deserved successes this year. I hope to see a huge crowd in Carpinteria Saturday night.

Santa Barbara, CA – On the heels of their invitation to the prestigious Red Dot Art Fair in Miami, Anderson Art Collective will open their next show Anderson3 with an artists’ reception on Saturday, October 16thfrom 6-8pm at the gallery.

The show features contemporary oils by Sean Anderson, monumental oils and portraits by  Benjamin Anderson and 3D mixed media by Ron Anderson.

“Despite the current economy, each of these artists has had an outstanding year. Benjamin had his solo show in Chelsea, NY earlier this year, this summer Sean’s work was collected both by a member of the Board of the Louvre and by a family on the Acquisitions Committee of the Tate, and Ron had his highest ever sales at his show in Park City, UT in August. We’re pleased to be able to showcase their work together in  Anderson3,” notes Leigh-Anne Anderson, gallery director. “And now, with George Billis’ invitation to Red Dot, things are very exciting here at the gallery.”

The Red Dot Art Fair, December 1-5, is a satellite show of Art Basel Miami Beach, the world’s largest international contemporary art fair. Galleries are chosen to present their best artists in shows that draw top international collectors.

Anderson ART Collective is located at 410 Palm Avenue, A2, in Carpinteria, CA in the historic Henry Fish Seed Company building at the entrance to Carpinteria State Beach and is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5pm or by appointment. The gallery has a roster of eleven contemporary artists and is a platform to promote the arts, to protect the environment and to support human rights. The Anderson Art CollectiveI  happened to be in Carpinteria today, so I stopped by the Anderson Art Collective to check out the new show of surf art that opens tomorrow night. I found brothers Sean and Ben Anderson in the middle of installation but they were nice enough to show me around. Though some of the major pieces for the show had yet to arrive, the things that were there made up a wonderful, surf-inspired collection. The show brings together a nice mix of photography, painting, sculpture, and amazing custom surfboards. As always with the Anderson clan, a portion of sales from the show are given to charity, this time the Santa Barbara Chapter of the SURFRIDER FOUNDATION. The opening night should be quite a scene, with live music and beverages. If you have yet to make plans for this Saturday, consider heading down to Carpinteria to see some great art.

Details and links to the included artists’ websites are below.

“Once again our focus for Rogue Wave II is to showcase contemporary artists that are influenced or inspired by the ocean and surfing while bringing the edgy, rogue-ish energies of the contemporary art world into the realm of surf culture. Case in point is Randy Noborikawa, an artist we are very excited about as he is pushing the boundaries on what is iconically known as ‘surf art’,” notes Benjamin Anderson, one of the curators of the show.

Highlights of the opening night include music by ‘dalai sonido’ and the auction of a one-of-a kind “Sexy Skull” donated by the Anderson Bros and signed by surf legends to raise money for the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

The show runs through August 8 with five percent of art sales and all proceeds from opening night donated to Surfrider.

Anderson ART Collective is located at 410 Palm Avenue, Loft A2, in Carpinteria, CA in the historic Henry Fish Seed Company building at the entrance to Carpinteria State Beach and is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5pm or by appointment.
